Apocalypse Now 3, Russian Red Army 2
Morse Place – February 13, 2010: The Russians landed in East Kildonan on Saturday afternoon to face-off against the mighty Apocalypse Now in the spongee play-offs. In a penalty filled game, including a game misconduct to Guy Sever late in the game, Apocalypse Now overcame a 2-1 half-time deficit to send the Red Army back to Russia. Two second half goals by the resurgent Jeff Wrobleski helped seal the deal. “I batted the puck out of the air. It hit my stomach and then my stick,” he said. The Russians complained about goaltender interference to no avail. Slap Shots:
Jim Heim was playing his 40th play-off game in goal…Bryan Wiebe was playing in his 30th career play-off game…The Apocalypse players gained inspiration from Apocalypse legend, Pete Pearson who came out to watch the game. Could a comeback be in the offing?
