Apocalypse Now 2, Belgium Club Crusaders 4

Melrose - February 26, 2017:The A-side final was delayed a week due to good weather but finally went ahead today. Apocalypse Now led the Belgium Club Crusaders 1 to 0 thanks to a Myron Fiks breakaway set up by Jason Allard to open the scoring. Bryan Wiebe scored again but the ref was not in position to call it so the goal was waved off. The Crusaders took advantage of the ref’s blown call and scored the next goal on a long shot that handcuffed Jim Heim on the dimly lit rink. A quick transition play on a defensive giveaway resulted in another quick goal against as Jeff Wrobleski got caught waiting up ice for the expected pass that never happened
Fiks was sent in alone for the second time but this time the puck took a bad hop off the chipped ice. Allard was able to knot the score at 2 apiece from Wrobleski who stole the sponge puck from the goalie behind the net with about 7 minutes left. But the Crusaders intercepted an errant pass and went on a 2 on 1 breakaway on which they scored to go up by one.
As Heim raced to get off the ice for the extra attacker in the final minutes they picked off another pass and broke in alone and potted one in the empty net ending the Horsemen's dream of winning the championship.
Slap Shots:: Jim Heim has played 70 playoff games and has a record of 35 wins and 35 losses. ..the loss didn't stop Wiebe from pounding back one last pound of wings at the Pony & celebrating a solid 11-6-1 season but it did get him contemplating about his future with the team. He was not ready to commit to another season after this bitter defeat and was going to wait a few months before deciding on signing another contract
