Apocalypse Now 0, Clockwork Orange 1

Melrose – February 8, 2009 – Clockwork Orange are off to the semi-finals and it took a 1-0 defensive struggle to do it. The Orange scored on a lucky goal as they eliminated the pesky Apocalypse Now 1-0 in a game dominated by the older-than-old losing team. The ‘lucky’ goal went through the legs of defenseman Bryan Wiebe as he tried to cover for Jim Heim who was caught out of the net. The gift came shortly after the referee disallowed what seemed to be a goal from Guy Sever that went in under the crossbar and came out quickly. The Ref also called Sever for interference with 3 minutes left in the game which virtually put an end to all hopes. For many years to come, people (or at least Jeff Wrobleski) will talk about the “disallowed goal” and the “fluke goal” which eliminated Apocalypse from the play-offs. Notes: The Clockwork Orange advance to the semi-finals against the the Puckin’ Ice Holes. The winner will face the Longshanks in the final…the last time Apocalypse was unable to score in regulation time in the play-offs was against the Bulldogs in 2007. Fortunately, The Bulldogs were also unable to score and Apocalypse won in a shootout…Jim Moore was not in the lineup as “something came up at home”…a team wind-up is being planned for the near future.
