Apocalypse Now 9, The Manatees 6
Melrose – February 6, 2009 –The Apocalypse
Now sniper was home with an injury, two guys showed up late and the weather was
great. And under those improbable circumstances, the 9th ranked Apocalypsers
pulled out a play-off victory that could turn out to be a landmark in their
up-and-down season. The play-off weekend opened with Apocalypse defeating the
16th ranked Manatees 9-6. After a shakey first half, Bryan Finney, who
was named the outstanding player in the game, led the charge on a 6-goal second
half that included 2 empty net goals.
The Manatees scored after pulling their goalie but that's where the
rally ended. In the dying moments, Jim Heim
shut the door on the hapless Manatees. Slap Shots: Manatee defenseman, Bill Cushnie has played 3 play-off games with
Apocalypse Now …Myron Fiks was out with an eye injury…Finney’s hat-trick was
the team’s first in the play-off since Sever did it against Bloodshot on April
7, 2004…several players were seen in the early hours of the morning partying at
the beer gardens. How this effects the next game will be determined.
