JOEL MOORE

A founding member of Apocalypse Now, Joe Moore is another solid member in the Apocalypse Now Hall of Fame. There would be no Apocalypse Now team if not for Joe.

He was a member of three championship teams. He won the scoring title in 1992-93 and again the next year in 1993-94 with a personal best 28 points. One of Joe's greatest claims to fame, is the time he was forced to play goal in a playoff game. The year was 1989 and it was the first game of the playoffs against Gang Green. Kerry Fisher and Beansy Ellis were our goaltending tandem throughout the year but neither was available on this night. Despite a broken shoulder and oversized galoshes, Joe volunteered to tend goal. It was the one and only time he played goal. He was spectacular kicking out shots left and right. In the end, he only let in 3 goals and Apocalypse went on to win 5-3. It was a miraculous win that will be talked about at the Pony Corral forever.

Joe ended his career with 294 points in 268 regular season games. He also had 40 points in 56 playoff games. It was his idea to keep track of the stats of every game and every player and the tradition continues.

It was just the goals he scored and how happy he was when he scored in Spongee. His spirit will be with us for a long time. “We have his number on our team jerseys so we keep reminding ourselves that he is still a part of us.” Jeff Wrobleski said. “He is always in our hearts. Joe was a great guy and spongee player and you can’t replace a player like that. He was one of a kind and obviously we all miss him.”
