Apocalypse Now 5, Elmwood Elkhorns 6
Melrose - February 5, 2023: The Elmwood Elkhorns are known to be hackers and whiners and they lived up to their reputation. In what was a close game, Jim Moore tried to pry a puck loose from the feet of an Elkhorn. He took exception and gave a two-handed whack to Moore's ankle in an obvious attempt to injure. The ref told the Elkhorn he was gone but then changed his mind and gave him a 2 minute penalty instead. He forgot that minor penalties are 3 minutes in length in this league. The Elkhorn player was released from the penalty box early and they proceded to score the go-ahead goal and go on to win 6-5. To add insult to injury, a Guido Sever goal was disallowed as the ref said that Jim Heim interfered with the goalie. "Ref You Suck." Heimie said afterwards. Apocalypse is now 2-4-1 in games versus the Elkhorns.
Slap Shots:Michael Moore wins the scoring title for the 3rd year in a row. His 22 pts equaled his total from last year which was also a shortened season...Myron Fiks put up a good fight for the scoring title but came up a couple of points short. He needs just 10 more points to hit the 500 point milestone...The current Ironman, Jim Heim has now played 125 games in a row. He last missed a game 10 years ago. The record is 183 games held by Rob Moore..the playoffs begin on Friday night.
