Elmwood Elkhorns 9, Apocalypse Now 4

Melrose – January 3, 2010 – With a little help from a speedster from the elite division, the Elmwood Elkhorns ended the Apocalypse Now’s five-game winning streak with a 9-4 victory Sunday night at the Melrose Community Club. The Elkhorns remain unbeaten. They had the edge in play right from the start, and that led to the game's first goal 30 seconds into the game. Apocalypse followed up with one of their own from Jason Allard but played catch-up the rest of the way. After Jeff Wrobleski took a controversial interference penalty, Apocalypse was able to pot a short-handed goal and make it a one goal game, 5-4. The comeback never materialized, however as the Elkhorn speedster (who drew comparisons to Mike Sanderson), scored 4 more goals to end it. Slap Shots: There were several game milestones of note…Guy Sever was playing in his 150^th regular season game…Patrick Nikolaus was playing in his 100^th regular season game…Jason Allard was playing in his 50^th regular season game…Tristan Carlson was playing in his 25^th regular season game… Allard scored his 36^th career goal which moves him ahead of Rob Haithwaite into 12^th place on the goal scoring list…Bryan Wiebe scored two goals and added an assist to move into a tie with Grant Kostal for 13^th place in career points.
