Apocalypse Now 2, The Dukes 1

Melrose – February 7, 2009 –After letting a late lead slip through their
fingers, it would have been easy for the Apocalypse Now to wilt under the
playoff pressure and the steely glares from the 4th ranked Dukes.
Guy Sever, who has seen just about everything in his 13 spongee
seasons, simply wouldn’t let them. Sever’s overtime slap-shot goal lifted the Apocalypse to a
2-1 victory over the Dukes on Saturday afternoon, and kept them on the A-side
of the play-off tournament. Sever also opened
the scoring mid-way through the first half when he intercepted a Dukes pass and
snapped the puck through the 5-hole of the startled Duke’s goaltender. The Dukes tied it late in the second half with
a fluke pass that hit Jim Heim’s stick and bounced in .Slap Shots: This was the first time that an Apocalypse
team ever won a game in an overtime period. In other years, they went straight
to the shoot-out…This was Jim Heim’s 15th play-off win…Jim Moore was
playing in his 40th play-off game.
