Apocalypse Now 5, Cropdusters 4

Melrose – February 9, 2014 –It was the Miracle on Melrose. In their largest comeback in playoff history, Apocalypse Now eliminated the heavily favoured Cropdusters in a 5-4 victory to advance to the A-side final. The Cropdusters were leading 4-2 with 5 minutes left and seemed to be on their way to victory. But Apocalypse Now stormed back with three unanswered goals starting when old reliable Jeff Wrobleski took a cross pass from Michael Moore and slipped it into the net. The Dusters started to panic and foolishly took a penalty by tripping Tristan Carlson.  On the ensuing powerplay and with Jim Heim on the bench for another extra attacker, Moore banged home the equalizer. The Dusters were reeling by that point and the barrage of shots continued until Guido Sever became the hero with a seeing-eye shot through traffic with 10 seconds on the clock. And the fans at Melrose Rink 3 showed him the kind of appreciation typically reserved for transcendent stars. MVP chants rained down on the offensive defenseman from the rafters. Slap Shots: With his third game winning goal in a row, Sever set the record for the most game-winning goals in a playoff season. It was the eighth of his career which is also a record…the win was the 30th playoff win in Jim Heim’s career…Wrobleski now has 40 career playoff goals…to see the wild finish, click here.
