Apocalypse Now 2, Bone Smugglers 4

Melrose - December 18, 2016: The new look Apocalypse Now took the ice knowing this will be a tough year. Missing several of their top scorers, they recruited rookie, Peter Tavares to be a difference-maker and in a surprise move, coaxed Ken White out of retirement to see if he still had the offensive magic that made him a season-opener legend over 25 years ago. The strategy did not work as the Bone Smugglers rallied late in the game to win it 4-2. Slap Shots:Bryan Wiebe was playing in his 200th regular season game. He is the 7th player to hit the 200 game mark…Ken White previously played 2 games for Apocalypse Now. He scored 2 goals including the season opener in his first game in 1987-88. He returned in 1990 to play the season opener and again got the first goal of the season. It has been 26 years since he last laced up the spongee boots but unfortunately he couldn’t get on the score sheet. The honor of obtaining the season opening goal goes to Patrick Nikolaus who did it for the third time, one short of Jason Allard’s record of 4. White does go into the record book however with the Longest Absence Between Regular Season Games. Pete Pearson previously held the record at 102 games. Whitey more than triples that amount going 357 games (26 years) between games. I’m sure many of the Bone Smugglers weren’t even born the last time he played.
