Apocalypse Now 4, Berzerkers 3
Melrose – December 21, 2014 –“Old Time Sponge Hockey.” That is how Jim Heim described the 4-3 win by Apocalypse Now over the Berzerkers. After taking a comfortable 3-1 lead in the second half, Bryan Finney mixed it up with a Berzerker and a brawl broke out. After the dust settled and a few pony tails pulled, Finney received the only penalty, 3 minutes for roughing. The Berzerkers scored twice on the ensuing powerplay to even the score. They seemed to be playing for the tie so Apocalypse took advantage. With 15 seconds remaining in the game, Patrick Nikolaus figured he would just toss the puck into a dangerous area and trust that someone would be there. Michael Moore was the recipient of the pass and converted his sixth goal of the season and his 13th career hat trick. Slap Shots: This was the fifth regular season meeting of these two teams. Apocalypse Now has won four and lost one with 26 goals for and 12 against…the teams also met once in the playoffs (2011-12) which resulted in a shootout win for Apocalypse. ..Michael Moore’s hat trick was the 3rd against the Berzerkers…Finney took only his second penalty in 74 career regular season games.
