Apocalypse Now 3, Ratz 6
Valley Gardens - December 22, 2024: It was an emotional start to the 2024-25 season as it marked the end of an era with the retirement of Jeff Wrobleski. Apocalypse Now fell 6-3 to the Ratz as their aging roster struggled to keep up. There were flashes of vintage sponge hockey as 67 year old Rob Moore scored the game and season opening goal. Jason Allard scored a pair and Apocalypse was up 3-2 at the half. The second half was a different story as defensive miscues allowed the opposition to take the lead and keep it. Jim Heim was back in net after a couple of years playing Left Wing and made several critical saves to keep the game within reach but the comeback was not to be. As the team reflects on the challenges of the season and prepares for what lies ahead, Wrobleski's legacy will undoubtedly serve as a reminder of perseverence, leadership and love for the game.
Slap Shots:Michael Moore is on a skiing trip and will be back in 2 weeks...Dave Silva's assist was his 20th point in 18 career games...Guido Sever was playing in his 290th regular season game...Jim Moore returned to the ice after missing all of last season due to injury. He played all of the 2022-23 season after his debilitating achilles injury...it was Rob Moore's 4th season opening goal. Jason Allard holds the record with 5...it was the 19th time these teams have met. Apocalypse has won 10, tied 3 and lost 6.
