1996-97

Rookie goalie Leo Silva set a club record with 10 wins leading Apocalypse to an 11-3 second place finish in the 18th division.

Another rookie sensation, Duncan McKay won the scoring title by two points after a season long battle with Guido Sever. In the second last game of the year, Guido was a no-show while Duncan had a four point night. This wrapped up the scoring derby, because in the last game of the year Apocalypse was shut out.

In Game 12, a 7-5 win over the Knuckleheads, Mike Allard opened the scoring with his 20th career goal, which was also his last ever goal. Mike continued to play one more season, but refused to dent the twine.

Greg Kostal also scored his 20th career goal, becoming only one of 14 players to reach this plateau. Earlier in the season, Greg notched Apocalypse Now’s 800th season goal.

The ‘97 playoffs were very exciting. Apocalypse dropped Game One of the A-Side Semi, but the next two games with the Killer Bees went to overtime shootouts. Apocalypse came out on top in both OT’s to advance to the A-Final. Leo stopped all Killer Bee shots in both games, Guido scored the only shootout goal to win the first game, while Jeff Wrobleski scored the lone shootout to win the last game.

But Leo chopped his hand off washing dishes and had to miss the first game of the final series. Bill Crushnie was thrown in goal only to disappoint the fans in a 5-2 loss. Despite Leo’s return for Game Two, the Varks came out flying and pasted Apocalypse 5-3.
