2024-25
It
is an end of an era as Jeff Wrobleski announced his retirement in the
off-season. There were still a few old-timers hanging on, Guido Sever, Rob
Moore, Jim Heim, Myron Fiks and Jim Moore. The rest of the team ain’t
that young either. After losing 5 of the first 6 games, Apocalypse Now managed
a tie against the Cleveland Steamrollers and then a win versus the Wheat Kings.
It looked like things were turning around but unfortunately, they lost the next
4 games and finished with a 4-9-1 record. A few highlights from the season
include Fiks hitting the 500-point mark in his career
and Jason Allard passing 300 points. Michael Moore joined the 200-goal club
with Wrobleski, Fiks and Sever. Moore also won the
scoring title for the 5th year in a row. History was also made when
Apocalypse started their first ever female goalie when Heimy
showed up late. Nancy Lambert did not look out of place in her debut.
The Play-Offs
The playoffs started off with a chippy game and a loss to the White
Lightning. Apocalypse lost the next game
but when it came to the elimination game, everyone showed up and sweated out a
7-5 win over the Warpigs to advance to the B-Side
Final. Sad to say, the Elmwood Elkhorns won the prize on a cold Sunday evening
but it was a good game with many ‘atta-boys’ thrown around in the Beer Gardens.
