1999-2000

Jim Moore opened the scoring for the year 2000 with the franchise 2000th point. Coincidence? I think not. Game Five tied the club record for goals by both teams in one game (22). It was an 11-11 tie! Jeff Wrobleski set a new record with nine points in the game (5g 4a), one point shy of tying the record of his boyhood idol, Darryl Sittler (6g 4a). Darryl’s record is not an Apocalypse record. In the second half of the double header, Apocalypse destroyed the Grand Beach Beer Bellies 12-4,. That’s 23 goals scored in one afternoon!! In this Beer Belly game, Jim Heim recorded his 10th career win, while Bryan Wiebe scored his first ever goal. Wiebe has stepped in with his steady defensive game to fill the void of the recently departed Mike "Stay at Home" Allard.

Rookie Myron Fiks opened the scoring in Game 8 for the third game in a row, but the star of this game was Rob Moore. He had not scored since potting his 50th the previous season, but he came out blazing with a hat trick. Joe got into a wrestling match with the goalie and was evicted. Jeff, not to be outdone, was also disqualified. Jeff was pulled down from behind and retaliated by slew-footing. He also received a one-game suspension, which he disregarded. Mike Babinsky searched the dressing room for Jeff after his illegally played game, but Jeff was long gone. The league defaulted the win in the infamous "Wrobleski Incident".

Jim Heim notched his first ever shutout in a 16-0 victory over Mofo. (What’s a Mofo?) After this game, the first annual skills competition ‘rink-race’ was initiated. Jeff led the way, and Heimy, pads and all, finished in fourth.

Jeff Wrobleski set up Joe Moore for his 100th career goal. Coincidentally, Joe set up Jeff for his 100th goal; in ‘93-94.

Game 14, the 12th win, tied the club record for most wins in a season. Joe scored the final goal of the season, the 101st, setting the new team record for goals scored in one year, breaking the ten year old record of 100 goals.

The Play-Offs

The semi-final was swept against the Shoppers Optical Grind. The final game was decided by shootout and the two Jims came through. Moore scored and Heimy was spectacular in goal.

Two months later a single game A-Side Final was played in Pioneer Arena due to an early thaw. Apocalypse was up against a youthful bunch of Soggy Sausages. Apocalypse held their own at 1-1 at the halfway point, but things unraveled quickly and it ended 8-3.
