2017-18
The puck dropped on Apocalypse Now’s 35th season in a fitting way; in a snowstorm. The conditions were sloppy and so was the play of the aging team as they lost the home opener. With no wins in the first 5 games (0-4-1), they tied the 1992-93 team with the worst start in team history. There was improvement in the second half of the season, coincidently with the return of Michael Moore, and ended the year with a 5-5-3 record. Officially they were 6-5-1 as they were awarded a default win.
The season saw the return of superstar, Guido Sever who missed the entire 2016-17 season with a lower body injury. Myron Fiks played in 11 of the 13 games and won the scoring title with 34 points.
Other notable occurrences in the season included:
• 13 different players scored a goal in the season which tied a 30 year old record set in 1987-88
• Bryan Finney celebrated his 50th career point
• Myron Fiks became only the 3rd Apocalypse Now player to hit the 400 point mark in his career.
• Jeff Wrobleski had a 4 point game which was the 25th time he has accomplished that feat in his career. He also notched his 100th playoff point.
• Michael Moore scored the 100th goal of his career. He reached the milestone in 43 games which beats the record of 68 games previously held by Pete Pearson.
• 13 players were dressed for the January 21, 2018 game vs. the Hugh Jammers, the most ever.
• Jim Heim played in his 300 career regular season game. Heim is also the current iron-man with a record setting 73 consecutive games played in goal.
• Apocalypse Now and Grand Beach Beer Bellies met for the 25th time.
The Play-Offs
It was a gloomy playoff year as the team won their first game and then lost the next two. As a result, they did not advance to the second weekend and the season ended early.
