2013-14

Apocalypse Now entered their 31st season with renewed confidence and high expectations as they had won the last 12 games of the 2012-13 season and did not embarrass themselves in the play-offs. The feeling didn’t last long as they dropped their first two games of the season and won only 2 of their first 11 games. It was a difficult and frustrating year that ended with a record of 4-8-2.

As trying as the season was, there were some highlights. Apocalypse Now hit the 4000 point mark…Bryan Finney took his first ever penalty in 85 regular season and play-off games…Jeff Wrobleski scored a goal on his birthday and played in his 400th game…Michael Moore scored the 50th goal of his career in 21 games which beat Pete Pearson’s record of 35 games…Jason Allard played in his 100th game…Myron Fiks had his 15th career hat-trick…Bryan Wiebe scored his 100th career point

The Play-Offs

The play-offs made up for a lackluster season. The 13th seeded Apocalypse Now opened with a 7-1 beating of the Warlords to get their swagger back. They kept their foot on the pedal as they laid waste to the Elmwood Elkhorns, 7-1. Then came the “Miracle at Melrose.” In their largest comeback in playoff history, Apocalypse Now eliminated the heavily favoured Cropdusters in a 5-4 victory to advance to the A-side final. The Cropdusters were leading 4-2 with 5 minutes left and seemed to be on their way to victory. But Apocalypse Now stormed back with three unanswered goals starting when Jeff Wrobleski took a cross pass from Michael Moore and scored. The Dusters tripped Tristan Carlson and on the ensuing powerplay and with Jim Heim on the bench for another extra attacker, Moore banged home the equalizer. The Cropdusters were reeling by that point and the barrage of shots continued until Guido Sever became the hero with a seeing-eye shot through traffic with 10 seconds on the clock.

The Championship final took place the next weekend but unfortunately, the Horsemen were unable to defeat the Brawlers and it was all over for another year.
