Apocalypse Now 7, District Five 5
Melrose – February 21, 2010: It was billed as Super Sunday. Perhaps that was more to do with the Olympics but Apocalypse Now was prepared to do their part against District 5. . In what will be remembered as one of the most exiting games in spongee history, the Apocalypse team jumped out to a 3-0 lead before District 5 got on the board just before the first half ended. "All it takes is one to get you going," someone on the District 5 bench shouted..
One goal became two in the second half. Two became three. In less than five minutes, the Districts had five unanswered goals and were leading 5-3. But instead of folding like a cheap suit, the Horsemen picked themselves off the ice and scored the next goal. and the next. and the next from Patrick Nikolaus to take the lead. Jeff Wrobleski got an empty netter to seal the win and collect a hat trick. "It was a nice win." Jim Heim said after the game, "But now we have to get ready for the Ratz in the final."
Slap Shots:
It was Wrobleski's first play-off hat trick in the last fifteen years.Bryan Finney recorded one last year in the play-offs against the Manatees...with his goal, Bryan Wiebe moves into a tie for sixteenth spot on the play-off scoring list...Myron Fiks was absent from the score sheet for his third straight game.
