Melrose - January 26, 2025: Apocalypse Now and the Whalers faced off in a thrilling spongee game that remained close until the final moments. The Whalers are a tight checking team and cut off almost every pass that was attempted by the Horsemen. The Whalers held a narrow 4-3 lead but with 5 minutes left, Apocalypse pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. The Whalers capitalized on the opportunity and came away with a 5-3 win. "I thought the ref said 2 minutes left," Guido Sever said in response to the early goalie pull. Pete Tavares was quick to add that "Guido's coaching hero is Patrick Roy."
Slap Shots: Sever was playing in his 300th regular season game. He has 248 goals, 201 assists for 449 points...Myron Fiks was playing in his 250th game. He has 246 goals, 258 assists for 504 points...the last time Jim Heim took a penalty as a goalie was on January 10, 2016 vs the Ratz when he was called for tripping.
