REGULAR SEASON
Game 1 Apocalypse Now 7, Grand Beach Beer Bellies
3
OLD EX –
January 7, 2007 – Myron Fiks and Guido Sever each had
a hat-trick as they led the Apocalypse to victory on Sunday afternoon. But with
all the bellyaching going on after the game, you would have thought that it was
Apocalypse who had been blown out. The
Bellies were playing without their regular goaltender and had no spares. “We should have had twice as many goals,” a
visibly upset Patrick Nikolaus mumbled. Late
Hits: The Apocalypse Now have not lost a season opener since the
2002-03 season...Fiks has scored the season opening
goal 2 years in a row and 3 out of the last 4. The 3 season opening goals ties Wrobleski and Joe Moore's record...Fiks
also scored the game winner which is his 4th consecutive game winning goal
which breaks the record set by Sever and Rob Moore...It was a big game for
Myron as he also passed Gary Ledrew to move into 7th
place on the all-time scoring list.

Game 2 Apocalypse Now 2, Blackhawks 7
OLD EX – January 8, 2007 – The Blackhawks
found their offense and broke out against the Apocalypse team running and
running to a 7-2 win. "Terrible," was how Apocalypse defenseman, Jeff
Wrobleski described the outing. "We put up a
fight for 10 minutes, then there was no fight after that." Apocalypse was sluggish and disorganized at
the start as the Blackhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Guy Sever and Jim Moore
scored goals 2 minutes apart in the second quarter to make it 3-2 but that was
as close as they would come. Late Hits: Apocalypse were without
Myron Fiks who was in Seattle…Mike Allard has confirmed
that he will be in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Pylons.

Game 3 – Apocalypse Now 3, Pylons 5
OLD EX – January 11, 2007 – The bottom fell
out on the weather and on the Apocalypse defence. With frigid temperatures and
without Mike Allard or Bryan Wiebe on the blue line, Apocalypse were put to the
test and failed. The Pylons picked up where they left off in last year’s play-offs
and came away with a 5-3 victory. After The Pylons took a 1-0 lead in the first
period, the Horsemen countered with a strange goal by Jim Moore. His wrist shot
from the slot appeared to go in but had actually hit the post. As the puck lay
in the crease, the goalie knocked it in himself. “I wasn’t sure what the call
was,” Moore said afterward. “I knew that I had hit the post but everyone just
seemed to stop. I guess we needed a few more of those to win.” The Pylons seemed to have taken control during a
dominant third period in which they shut down the Apocalypse offence and scored
their insurance goal. Late Hits: Darren Warbeck was playing
in his 20th regular season game…The Apocalypse have not scored more
than one goal in the first period this season…Tuesday’s game vs. the Blackhawks
was Jeff Wrobleski’s 300th regular season game. He joins Rob Moore in the over 300 game club.

Game 4 – Apocalypse Now 6, Bulldogs 4
OLD EX –
January 14, 2007 – Myron Fiks scored the tiebreaking
goal with 50 seconds left in the game as the Apocalypse Now rallied past the
Bulldogs. Fiks snagged the long pass from Guy Sever
and with a nifty shot from a difficult angle put his team ahead. Jim Moore
clinched it with an empty netter. Late Hits: Jeff Wrobleski
has been playing with a fractured thumb since the second exhibition game… Bryan
Wiebe confessed that he missed the last game because he forgot about it…Fiks got the game winning goal again which extends his
record to 5 in a row.

Game 5 – Apocalypse Now 2, Bladerunners 2
OLD EX – January 15, 2007 – The Apocalypse
Now playing in their second game in as many nights, were fortunate to escape
with a point against the Bladerunners. “Jim Heim made
some huge saves”, Myron Fiks shouted after the
game. After a scoreless first period,
the Bladerunners lured Jim Heim out of the net and
pocketed the puck behind him. Heimy was roaming a bit but was able to dodge the bullets
fired at him. It then appeared that the
Runners were prepared to play solid defense and sit on their lead. Once it got
to the third period, Fiks saved the day again by
taking a distant pass from Bryan Wiebe and not giving up until it was in the
net. He took several whacks at the puck and eventually was able to elevate a
shot over the Bladerunner goalie. The Runners added
another goal in the 3rd period but Apocalypse battled from behind to
force the tie game. Late Hits: Myron Fiks has 11 points in 3
games. He now has 99 career regular season goals…Jeff Wrobleski
was held off the score sheet for the first time since February 9, 2006 in a 4-2
loss to the Pylons. He has scored 2
goals and added 10 assists in the 7 game streak.

Game 6 – Apocalypse Now 3, Banman Trucking 3
OLD
EX – January
21, 2007 – The experts predicted that Banman Trucking
would have an easy time with Apocalypse. Early on, it looked like the experts
were right, but the Apocalypse team silenced the critics by coming from behind
to salvage a tie. Banman was up 3-0 when Darren
Warbeck got the train on track by scoring with 2 seconds left in the second
period. Apocalypse dominated in the third period but couldn’t get the winning
goal by the Banman goaltender. Late
Hits: Myron Fiks’ became the 6th member of
the elite 100 goal club and with his 2 points passed Rob Moore and moved into
6th place in all-time scoring... Rob Moore is questionable for Saturday’s game
with a lower body injury…Warbeck’s goal was his first this year…Jim Moore doubled
the team’s penalty total for the year with his temper tantrum in the second
period.

Game 7 - Apocalypse Now 10, The
B’Z 3
OLD EX – January 27,
2007: The B’Z made mistakes, over and over again,
against a team full of scorers ready to take advantage. Guy Sever had four
goals and an assist, Myron Fiks extended his game
winning goal streak to 6 games and Darren Warbeck scored a hat-trick as
Apocalypse Now came to play on Saturday night.
But it was the Horsemen’s early explosion – four goals in the
first period -- that set the table.
Sever picked up a loose puck and finished a 2-on-2 rush with a quick wrister 5 minutes into the game and then 2 minutes later ,
he made a B’Z defenseman pay for a turnover near his own net and the rout was
on. The Apocalypse have not scored more
than 1 goal in the first period since February 11, 2006 against the Yogic
Flyers, a stretch of 9 games. "When we had chances tonight," Warbeck
said, "we buried them." Late Hits: Fiks assisted on
six of the games tallies, and now has 11 assists, 8 shy of the team record. He
has 15 points in his last four games. ...The last time Apocalypse scored 10 or
more goals in a game was against Totally Confused on January 9, 2005. If
playing against a goalie counts, then you have to go back to 2004 and a 10-3
win over the Blue Devilz …Mid-season acquisition,
Tristan Carlson was playing his first game for Apocalypse.

Game 8 - Apocalypse Now 2, Bladerunners 9
OLD EX – January 29, 2007 – Apocalypse Now
finally hit a road block in the Bladerunners. The centreman with
the white jersey almost single-handedly snapped the Apocalypse 4-game
undefeated streak, leading Blades to a decisive 9-2 victory on Monday night.
Apocalypse came out sluggish and looked a little stagnant. Everything went
wrong," Jim Heim said "Turnovers, our coverage wasn't very good in
our zone.” Late Hits: Jeff Wrobleski will miss the double header on Saturday. It will be the first time he has missed a
game since the 1998-99 season, 8 years ago…This was the first loss for
Apocalypse this year with Myron Fiks in the lineup.

Game 9 - Apocalypse Now 7, Banman
Trucking 3
OLD EX – February 3, 2007 –The unexpected happened when the domesticated
Apocalypse team visited one of the division’s best teams. Playing with
out Guy Sever and Jeff Wrobleski, Apocalypse
loosened up and let go with a 7-3 win over Banman
Trucking. Jim Moore notched his first
hat-trick of the year and Myron Fiks had a goal and 5
helpers. Late Hits: Jeff Wrobleski missed his first game in 8 years and everyone
noticed. “It was so quiet and relaxing on the ice” an anonymous Apocalypse
player said afterwards, “Usually it feels like I have my mother out there
yelling at me all the time”…James Antonick was
playing his first game for Apocalypse after being scouted by Darren Warbeck. He
contributed a goal and did not look out of place…Fiks’
string of game winning goals ended at 6 games which is a new record…Jim Moore’s
goal in the third period was the first goal this year that either Fiks, Sever or Wrobleski were not
involved in.

Game 10 - Apocalypse Now 4, B’Z 4
OLD EX – February 3, 2007 – The defense provided the most of the goals, and
they pointed to goaltender Jim Heim as the difference as Apocalypse walked away
with a last minute tie with the B’Z. With Apocalypse forward,
Jim Moore back covering him, Patrick Nikolaus broke
down the right side, took a centering pass from Myron Fiks
in the slot and buried it into a wide open right side for his 1st goal of the
season. Minutes later and with seconds left in the game and with Jim Heim on
the bench, Nikolaus got the puck again in the B’Z
crease and banged away at it until it went in. When asked to comment on his
game opening goal, Bryan Wiebe replied, “How many guys does it take to get a
free pizza at Boogies?” Late Hits:
The temperature at game time was close to minus 40 with the wind chill…Wiebe
will be a healthy scratch from the next 2 games as he vacations in a warmer
climate…Fiks needs just 2 helpers to break the all time assist record of 19.

Game 11 - Apocalypse Now 1, Blackhawks
2
VALLEY
GARDENS – February 11, 2007 – Apocalypse Now lost to the Blackhawks on Sunday
afternoon by a score of 2-1. “We let Heimy
down." Guy Sever said before running to his Kiss Army game. After scoring
early in the first period, the offense was shut down. "We didn't have
enough players show up," Jeff Wrobleski said.
"It seems like the same eight or nine guys keep coming to play, then we
have too many passengers. They (Blackhawks) deserved to win, and we deserved
what we got." Late Hits: Myron Fiks tied
the age old assists record with his 19th of the season. He now shares the
record with Wrobleski, Guy Sever and Darren Woo …The
one goal scored was the fewest this year. The last time Apocalypse only scored
one goal or less in a game was against the Reapers a year ago…Bryan Wiebe
missed his first game of two.

Game 12 – Apocalypse Now 3, Bulldogs 8
VALLEY
GARDENS – February 11, 2007 – Look out WSPHL, the Bulldogs are showing signs of
getting back on track. They won their sixth game in a row by crushing the
Apocalypse Now, 8-3 on Sunday Afternoon. It was the second game of a
double-header, they were missing their defensive anchor, Bryan Wiebe, and
someone forgot to tie Jim Heim’s bungee cord to the net…but the Apocalypse
players were not looking for excuses. “My groin is sore,” Patrick Nikolaus said before boarding a plane to the Dominican
Republic with a bunch of young girls. “I think we just secured a B-side
finish,” Myron Fiks was heard to moan after the game.
Late Hits: Fiks broke the assist record by
setting up Jeff Wrobleski’s shot from the slot in the
first period. It was also Fik’s 30th point of the
year. This was only the second time he’s cracked that barrier in his 8 year
career…Jim Moore’s goal in the third period was the team’s 50th of the year,
which is no where near the 100 goals scored in
2001-02 and 1989-90 or the 101 scored in 1999-00. However, they do have two
games left.... the team was so dejected after the game that only one pound of wings
was consumed. Jim Heim would normally have ordered two pounds but was also
feeling slightly miserable.

Game 13 - Apocalypse Now 4, Pylons 8
OLD EX – February 13, 2007 – With an emphatic win in their final game before the
play-offs, the Pylons ended Apocalypse Now’s dreams of an A-side championship.
Jim Heim was working on all the combinations and permutations (which he
completed once his team was down 3-0 in the first period) and it appears these
two teams will meet again in the first round of the B-side play-offs. The
Pylons struck early and often and Apocalypse was forced to play catch-up which
they rarely succeed at. The Pylons
scored on many cross-ice passes and on the one powerplay
chance they had. “We had almost as many
chances as they did, but we didn't score.” Jim Moore said while gnawing on a
chicken wing bone after the game. “All
the bounces and everything went their way," said Darren Warbeck who was
involved in a controversial goal near the end of the game. Guy Sever thought he
may have tipped Myron Fiks shot but the consensus
afterward was that he did not. Late Hits: Myron Fiks continued to climb the all-time scoring list by reaching
the 200 point milestone. He is only 3 assists away from having 100…Jeff Wrobleski and Warbeck were late getting to the game which
meant there were no spares for most of the first period…The lifetime record
between these two teams is 1-4-1 in the regular season. The Pylons also swept
Apocalypse 2 games to zero in the play-offs last year. Apocalypse’s only win
was on January 26, 2005…The next game for Apocalypse is against the Beer
Bellies which will mean nothing in the standings. It will be an out-and-out
stats game.

Game
14 - Apocalypse Now 2, Grand Beach Beer
Bellies 7
OLD
EX – February 17, 2007 –The Beer Bellies shadowed Myron Fiks
and without his offense, Apocalypse lost their fourth game in a row. They came
out flat again like in so many games this year and the Beer bellies went up 2-0
in the first. But instead of folding, the Horsemen scored two second-period
goals and tried to make a game of it. Unfortunately the Bellies scored 4 goals
in the second and it was basically game over. Late Hits: In the last 3
games Apocalypse has scored 10 goals compared to 23 against…There must be
something about the date, February 17th for Myron Fiks.
The last time he was left off the score sheet was on that same date last year
against the Reapers…Rumour has it that the Pylons
have already organized a parade for their B-side championship celebrations.

PLAY-OFFS SEMI-FINALS
Game One –
Apocalypse Now 3, The Pylons 2
OLD EX –
February 21, 2007 – An angry
air of desperation and doubt has been hanging over the Apocalypse Now as they
try to pull out of an end-of-season tailspin. Taking the first game of the best
of three B-side semi-finals may cure what ails them.
The Pylons
appeared caught off guard when Apocalypse came out in a man to man defense that
took away their passing game. Bryan
Wiebe opened the scoring with a sneaky shot and quick reaction to the
rebound. There was no celebration, not
so much as a pat on the back or the glint of a smile. Apocalypse was all
business.
Guy Sever
made it 2-0 with a tip in of a Myron Fiks shot but
the Pylons were not rolling over on this night. They battled back to tie the game and it
looked like an overtime shoot-out was looming.
With 16 seconds remaining and Apocalypse pressing for the go-ahead goal,
the Pylons took an interference penalty.
Jeff Wrobleski won the ensuing face-off and it
sailed back to Jim Heim. He quickly fired the puck up to Darren Warbeck who saw
Jim Moore open at the top of the slot. With 3 seconds left, Moore one-timed the
perfect pass and found the top right corner of the net. A hero is born and
Apocalypse wins 3-2. “My groin feels
great,” Patrick Nikolaus screamed after the game.
Late Hits: This was Apocalypse Now’s first
play-off win since April 7, 2004 when they beat Bloodshot 6-3 to claim the
B-side championship…Jim Moore’s soon to be legendary goal was his first
play-off game winning goal. With the point, he and Fiks
(with his 2 assists) moved into a tie with Rob Moore for 7th place
in career play-off scoring with 22 points…Warbeck’s assist was his first
play-off point. Frozen Ponders: Apocalypse
lost two straight games after winning the play-off opener in February, 2001
against the Golden Geeks. Jim Moore missed the only win; Game One because of a
wedding social (his)…The Bulldogs also won their game against the Beer Bellies
last night. They scored with 3 seconds remaining to force a shoot-out and made
quick work of the Smokin’ Goalie.

Game Two – Apocalypse Now 4, The Pylons 3 (SO)
OLD EX –
February 22, 2007 – Myron Fiks scored the decisive goal in the shootout after he got
Apocalypse Now even in the third period, and the Horsemen beat the Pylons for
the second time in two nights, winning 4-3 on Thursday to advance to the B-side
final. The Apocalypse Now team stuck to
the game plan of sitting back in a defensive shell and waiting for the right
offensive opportunities to present themselves against the younger Pylon team
that had won 5 straight games against the Horsemen - including a couple of
thrashings (6-2 & 8-4) this year.
The team's two offensive weapons Fiks and Guy
Sever combined early seizing the right moment to strike from the defensive
shield and put the team in an unfamiliar 1st period lead. Darren Warbeck and Bryan Wiebe both just
missed opportunities to put the team ahead by two. Then Jim Moore used his 6’
9” frame and 12 foot reach to forecheck - stole the
puck and ran – yes, ran in all alone and drifted a shot past the shocked Pylon netminder.
Unfortunately age and reality set in as the younger opponents fought
back to a 3-2 lead after popping a big juicy rebound passed a startled Jim Heim
as he mumbled that he may have taken the shot too lackadaisical and should have covered up the rebound. The team was
now in momentary shock and was running around like 5 headless chickens. The clock was ticking and time was running
out. Jeff Wrobleski
was waddling and crashing towards the Pylon defenseman and in a deer stuck in
the headlights fashion, the defenseman panicked and coughed up the puck. The
next thing you knew Fiks was calmly depositing the
sponge rubber in the back of the mesh. The game was tied. The Pylons threw
everything they had at the aging Horsemen. But Heim slammed the door shut the
rest of the way - standing on his head and making save after save until
regulation time ran out. It took 7
rounds of the shootout before Fiks tried a different
move to beat the Pylon goalie and win a wild one. Slap Shots: The Bulldogs finished off the Grand Beach Beer Bellies
and will meet Apocalypse on Tuesday night…Fik’s 2
penalties were the most he has ever taken in one game…Including this year,
Apocalypse has challenged for the B-side championship a total of 9 times. They
have only won it once in 2003-04.

FINALS
Game One –
Apocalypse Now 1, The Bulldogs
2
OLD EX – February 27, 2007 – Apocalypse Now decided to go into the B-side final
series opener with no spares and as a result, lost 2-1 to the Bulldogs. Down
1-0 early, Jim Moore tied it up in the 2nd period as he continued his torrid
goal scoring binge but missed putting the team ahead on about 9 other chances.
Patrick Nikolaus and Bryan Wiebe bottled up the
opposition for almost the whole game with their stellar defensive play,
although Bryan was frustrated with the blustery conditions. Myron Fiks was
foiled on a late game breakaway and all he could say was "We could have
used a few spares.” The Bulldogs pulled
ahead late in the 3rd period on a turnover that caught everyone off guard. It appeared that the shot was deflected
passed a startled Jim Heim. A time out
was called and Heimy tossed his pads off and played
out for the last 2 1/2 minutes to no avail.
Slap Shots: Rob Moore has
played in every single Apocalypse Now play-off game until tonight. It was his
first miss in 24 years and 68 games. The reason was Van Morrison…Darren Warbeck
was also out of town although someone thought they saw him in the clubhouse
washroom…Guy Sever injured his left wrist and did not play. He is expected back for Game 2 on Thursday
night…Tristan Carlson had the flu and as a result, no spares.

Game Two –
Apocalypse Now 1, The Bulldogs 0 (SO)
OLD EX – March 1, 2007 – Jim Heim once again gave the Apocalypse Now a chance to win on Thursday
night by stopping every shot that came his way and earning his first career
play-off shut-out and only the second in team history. Unfortunately, his
teammates in front of him were also unable to score and the game went to
shootout. Jim Moore and Myron Fiks scored in the
shootout and Heim only allowed one goal to give Apocalypse its second overtime
victory this playoff season and avoid a sweep by the Bulldogs. “Heimie was phenomenal," said last minute call-up Jason
Allard. Had it not been for Heim’s
strong play -- and several close-in misses by the Bulldogs – the Dogs might
have put the game away earlier. They also were unable to take advantage of a
questionable late penalty call on Bryan Wiebe. Slap Shots: This was Heimie’s first
shut-out since January 9, 2005, when he slammed the door on Totally
Confused…Including his shootout goal, Jim Moore has scored in all 4 play-off
games this year…The last time that Apocalypse played more than 4 play-off games
in a year was in 1996-97 – 3 semi-final games and 2 losses in the final…Darren
Warbeck is expected back for game 3 of the series.

Game Three – Apocalypse Now 3, The
Bulldogs 4 (SO)
OLD EX – March 3,
2007 – Veteran goalie, Jim Heim made several dazzling saves, finishing off a
brilliant playoffs with a rock-solid performance in Game 3. But it wasn’t
enough as the Bulldogs ran away with their first B-side title, beating
Apocalypse 4-3 in a shootout in the winner-take-all finale Saturday morning. The
Bulldogs lifted the Spongee Cup above their heads,
tears of joy streaming down their faces. The Apocalypse Now have nothing to be
ashamed of, becoming the first seventh-seeded Apocalypse team to make the
B-side finals. But they failed to bring home its first championship since 2004.
Jim Moore came through again, scoring his playoff-leading 4th goal by taking a
Jeff Wrobleski pass and launching a wicked wristshot into the back of the net with 1:15 on the clock
and Heimie on the bench. The goal tied the game and
sent it to the overtime shootout. Despite Heimie’s
protests that the Bulldogs received home ice advantage in every game of the
series, they had the option to shoot last. Myron Fiks
was the only Apocalypse player that was able to score in the shootout and after
7 shots Apocalypse lost two goals to one. "It's just a matter of a few
bounces and that's the difference today," Patrick Nikolaus
said. "They were just a little bit better." Slap Shots: The
Apocalypse had to cope with the loss of playoff star Darren Warbeck, who had
played very well in the opening series against the Pylons…Rob Moore was playing
in his team-leading 70th play-off game…With his 7 play-off points, Fiks moved into 6th place in career play-off scoring, one
point behind the immortal Gary Ledrew…With all the
disappointment following the shootout loss, Apocalypse Now forgot to stick
around for the annual end of season race. Overlooking it may have been for the
best considering the 81 pounds of chicken wings consumed this season.
