REGULAR SEASON

Game 1 - 7-6 WIN VS. DA STICKMEN

MARIO WHO? Pete Pearson made a wildly successful return to spongee as he notched his record 12th career hat trick along with one assist. After 7 years in retirement, Pearson came out flying, registering a goal on his first shift. Apocalypse Now had played 102 regular season games since Pearson’s last appearance. Less than a week earlier, Mario Lemieux also came out of retirement, but Pete’s game diminished Mario’s spectacular return.

Goal: Jim H

Penalties: Joe 4 mins.

Game 2 - 3-2 WIN VS. EURASIA PLAYERS CLUB

Jim Heim posted his second victory while Rob Moore scored for the second time in as many games this season. “I’m glad I was there for the team,” Rob thought, “We had a big challenge ahead of us, so I had to step up the game.” In reality, Rob’s goal was scored into an empty net as the Eurasia goaltender arrived a few minutes late for the game.

1. Rob M 2. (Pete)

2. Myron 1. (Jim)

3. Pete 4. (Myron)

Goal: Jim Heim

Penalties: Jeff 2 mins.

Game 3 - 3-1 LOSS VS. HELL’S HENCHMEN

Hell’s Henchmen put the heat on Apocalypse in a fast paced, penalty filled, defensive struggle. The officiating was less than adequate, as inconsistent calls flared short tempers. With this loss Apocalypse Now ended a 14 game undefeated streak. A win would have tied the longest win streak (12) of all time. Oh well, just start a new streak next game.

1. Pete 5. (Jeff)

Goal: Jim Heim

Penalties: Guido and Jeff 2 min, Rob M 4 min.

Game 4 - 3-3 TIE VS. GOLDEN GEEKS

The Geeks came back from a 3-1 deficit, much to the disappointment of A. Now. Heimy played well in goal despite breaking his shutout bid with a gift behind the net. “It was nice to have time to touch the puck, after that last game,” Jeff admitted. Everyone is quite worried about the goal scoring drought and hope to take their frustrations out on Farm Team that was clobbered in exhibition.

1. Jeff 1. (Guido)

2. Rob B 2. (Guido)

3. Myron 2. (Rob B)

Goal: Jim Heim

Penalties: Bryan, Rob B, Rob M 2 mins

Game 5 - 11-2 WIN VS. FARM TEAM

“Did someone say we needed offense?” Rob Burnett asked after dishing out a five point night. Rob tied a club record, blowing the game open with four consecutive goals. Not to be outdone, Jeff and Guido were blasting the puck from the point for their first hat tricks of the season. The only fan, Michael Moore, was in awe of the spongee display put on by Apocalypse Now against a team half their age. Now he knows what he wants to do when he grows up!

1. Guido 1. (Jeff)         Apocalyptic Milestone Jim H’s 50th Career Game in Goal

2. Guido 2. (Rob M)

9. Jeff 4. (Myron)

10. Rob M 3. (Rob B)

11. Guido 3. (Bryan)

Goal: Jim Heim

Penalties: Guido, Joe 2 mins

Game 6 - 4-3 WIN VS. SIX GUN JUSTICE

NO JUSTICE FOR THE SIX GUNS With less than two minutes on the clock, Six Gun pulled their goalie on the powerplay for a two man advantage and scored to tie the game at three. Jeff took off on a breakaway soon after the ensuing faceoff. A defenseman tried to interfere with Jeff, so Ref, Craig Stapon called a delayed penalty, but Jeff scored anyway.“This win is Heimy’s,” Bryan shouted after the game.

1. Rob B 7. (Jim)

2. Myron 3. (Jeff)

3. Pete 6. (Joe)

4. Jeff 5. (Bryan)

Goal: Jim Heim

Penalties: Pete 2 mins, Joe 2mins and Guido 4 mins.

Game 7 - 5-2 WIN VS. FARM TEAM

Jim Heim became only the third goalie in the history of the team to reach the 20 win plateau. While at the same time, his buddy Robbie Burnett became the ninth player to reach forty goals

1. Jim Moore  3. (Pete)   Apocalyptic Milestone Heim’s 20th Career Win

2. Pete 7. (Joe)

3. Rob M 4. (Rob B)

4. Rob B 8. (Bryan)  Apocalyptic Milestone Rob Burnett’s 40th Career Goal.

5. Jim 4. (Jeff)

Goal: Jim H

Penalties: Rob B & M 2 mins each

Game 8 - 11-5 LOSS VS. SIX GUN JUSTICE

The highlight of the game occurred late when the game was already out of hand. Just to the right of the Apocalypse net, Jimmy got into a little slashing match, the Six Gun player was given a minor penalty by referee Stapon. Six Gun Boy objected and got another, objected again and got another, then the goalie piped up and Six Gun reached their five penalty limit, awarding Jimmy with a penalty shot try.

1. Joe 1. (Jeff)

2. Rob B 9. (Jim)

3. Jim 5. (Rob B)

4. Rob M 5. (Rob B)

5. Jeff 6. (Joe)

Goal: Jim Heim

Penalties: Bryan 2 min. Jim Moore unsuccessful on penalty shot.

Game 9 - 5-5 TIE VS. EL SCORCHOS

The debut of the new green jersey was not in a winning cause as a 3-1 lead at the midway point of the game was given up. Apocalypse had an empty net for the first half as Jim was late, but they waited until after his arrival before falling apart in a very boring game with absolutely no intensity.

1. Pete 8. (Rob M)

2. Pete 9. (Myron)

3. Jeff 7. (Myron)

4. Jim 6. (Rob M)

5. Myron 4. (Unassisted)

Goal: Jim Heim

Penalties: None

Game 10 - 12-1 WIN VS. EL SCORCHOS

El Scorchos decided to give their goalie the night off and Apocalypse seized the opportunity filling the net. The game was followed by the second annual ‘skills competition’. The fastest player race was held with defending champion Jeff being knocked off his throne by Rob. Actually, Bryan won the race, but Rob Moore gave Jeff a shove to slow him down. Jim Moore took the bronze, Joe used the excuse of a sore groin, but made sure he beat the goalie. Burnett brought up the rear, claiming he didn’t know it was two rink lengths. (His same excuse as last year.) Myron and Pete left early, while Guido went to Texas instead of racing.

1. Jim 7. (Joe)

Goal: Jim Heim

Penalties: None Myron unsuccessful on penalty shot

Game 12 - 6-6 TIE VS. GOLDEN GEEKS

The third tie of the season matched the club record. It was a disappointing tie as Apocalypse held a 6-3 lead halfway through the third. Geeks scored with 2 minutes remaining, but it was a valuable point for Apocalypse in the standings. They can now finish ahead of fourth place and not meet the undefeated Henchmen in the first round.

2. Rob B 13. (Pete)

8. Guido 7. (Jim)

Game 14 - 16-1 WIN VS. EURASIA PLAYERS CLUB

“This was the easiest game…ever!” Jeff declared after thrashing Eurasia. The win pushed Heimy past Leo Silva into second all time on the win list. This game set a new club record for the most different players with a goal, 8! Only Pete failed to score. Usually it’s the rest of the team that fails to score when Pete gets hat tricks. The first seven goals tonight were scored by different guys! The dominate double header was celebrated at Boogie’s, but not before Guido challenged the team to a race as he missed the “Skills Competition” while in Texas. Guido jogged in backwards, Bryan gave him a little competition, Jeff third, Joe fourth, just ahead of Rob with Jim bringing up the rear.

SERIES I: A-SIDE SEMI-FINAL VS. GOLDEN GEEKS

GAME ONE 5-3 WIN

Myron and Guido got things started combining for three early goals. The goals tied records for consecutive goals and consecutive assists in the playoffs. Geeks and Apocalypse tied both of the season meetings and with the score 3-3 at the halfway point, shoot-out was looking like a possibility. The referee smiled on Apocalypse handing them a two man advantage, Apocalypse went ahead and never looked back.

1. Guido 1. (Myron)

2. Guido 2. (Myron)

3. Guido 3. (Myron)

4. Myron 1. (Joe)

5. Myron 2. (Jeff)

Penalties: Rob M, Jeff, Rob B

Goal: Jim Heim

GAME TWO 4-1 LOSS

It was a physical, penalty filled contest. The Geek goaltender stood on his head, single handedly defeating Apocalypse. “I must’ve had 10 shots”, said Jim Moore on his return after missing Game One for his wedding social. The injured Pete Pearson and Rob Burnett will be back for Game 3.

1. Guido 4. (Jeff)

Penalties: Rob M, Joe 2 mins. Jim 4 mins.

Goal: Jim Heim

GAME THREE 2-1 LOSS

“I can’t believe I didn’t score.” Guido kept repeating and repeating while staring at his beer bottle in Boogies after the game. “I’ll be back, I live for spongee” Jim Heim replied when asked if he was returning for an 8th season with Apocalypse. “Why does this loss bug me so much?” Bryan asked himself, “Get over it, this is only spongee…but, man…” Incidentally, this was Pete’s first playoff game since the 1990 championship game.

1. Rob B 1. (Guido)

Penalties: Guido 2 min.

Goal: Jim Heim
